Investing in Las Positas College

Though nearly 8,200 students attend the college each year, Las Positas recently turned away more than 1,200 students who had hoped to attend the college.

• Las Positas College currently receives 6% less state funding per full time student than it did in 2001.

• LPC has been forced to cut back many student and community programs, including orientations, faculty grants, performing arts, and many other programs.

• While the University of California raised fees to $5,537 per full time student, and the California State University system raised fees to $2,566 per student, the state raised fees for Las Positas College students to $468 for each full time student. But, unlike UC and CSU, all of the fees collected are returned to the state’s general fund. LPC is not able to retain these monies to offset state funding cuts.

Community college students come from all walks of life. They’re our children, our neighbors, our parents, co-workers, and our friends. They come to Las Positas College looking for certification in skilled and technical professions, for retraining to ensure employment, and for a general education to transfer to universities. They become our day-care providers, our government leaders, our astronauts, our computer technicians, and our teachers. The college is truly a Tri-Valley community asset. The success of its students makes a difference in all of our lives every day.
