Event Description

Once a year, the Las Positas College Foundation holds an entertaining and celebratory fundraising event. The tenth annual BEST of the BEST Gala will be held April 27, 2013. The evening will be a mix of the BEST of the BEST in FUN, Performing Arts, gourmet food, fine local wine and distinctive signature cocktails. Guests are invited to attend in cocktail attire with a possible 1960s Mad Men style twist.

The evening will begin with the guests sampling Livermore Valley wines from 12 local wineries and delicious hors d’oeuvres presented by 10 exceptional Tri-Valley restaurants in the elegant Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts on the Las Positas College campus. In addition, throughout the evening a no-host bar will serve a selection of BEST of the BEST Signature cocktails.

Mid-way through the evening, the guests will move from the Pre-Show Reception to the theater for a Performing Arts Showcase featuring student presentations of dance, vocal, music and interpretive speaking. After the performances, the evening is to be capped off with a dessert and champagne celebration of the College.

For a least two weeks prior to the BEST of the BEST evening, supporters from across the country will to able to participate in an exciting and dynamic on-line auction. During the evening, guests will have the opportunity to bid on several unique items unavailable on-line. These will include wine country meals and adventures and high-end life-style packages for professional cultural and sporting events.

The goal of the event is to produce an elegant and tasteful – but low-overhead – event to maximize the profit for the Foundation’s continuing support of the College community. Toward this end, the food, wine, liquor and auction items are all donated and the on-campus venue is cost-free. Many of the support elements, such as lighting, decorations and rentals, are provided at or below cost. Guest tickets are priced at $95 each until April 1 and $125 thereafter.

The BEST of the BEST gala is a lovely evening with the beneficiaries being the students, staff, faculty and greater regional community that Las Positas College serves. In the current economic environment of reduced state funding of higher education, this support is critically important to maintaining LPC’s stellar reputation of a high transfer rate to four-year institutions and quality career-technical training.
